My name is Ricky and I live in Austin, Texas. I’m a Graphic/Web Designer. I married and have two kids. Ok, enough about me.
I decided to start a blog to share my experiences from writing prisoners through the organization - Christian-PenPals.com. My wife was the one who initially informed me of this ministry. I emailed the administrator (Elizabeth Michael) of Chrisitan-PenPals and asked for a PenPal. She replied with three different possibilities for me. I had a hard time picking between two of the three because I had so much in common with them, so I decided to write both.
After writing both guys and receiving a response, my whole outlook on this ministry changed. I wanted to do more. I wanted to find a way to get the word out especially when Elizabeth informed me that there are prisoners on a Pen Pal waiting list. When she also told me that the form on their web site was broken and that people haven’t been able to sign up, it became obvious how I could help out more.
I contacted Elizabeth and asked her if she’d be willing to let me redesign their entire site (making both forms work too). She was thrilled and gave me the go-ahead. We launched the new site on 7/14 and have already seen a great response with people signing up.
I still wanted to do more. So I contacted Elizabeth again and asked her if we could start a blog. She gave me the go-ahead again. So here I am. All I’m looking to accomplish with this blog is informing more people about this ministry and how taking only 20 minutes or so every two weeks can truly bless someone’s life!
